If you are making a trip to Austin, it’s important to consider the area in advance so that you can see some of the different things that it has to offer. State Capital – It really wouldn’t be a trip to Austin if you didn’t consider visiting the capital building. In fact, many people who live in Austin and the surrounding area have not taken the time to pay a visit to it. It was built in 1888 and the structure is made out of granite and marble, so it is quite a sight to see. It holds both the Senate and House chambers plus an impressive dome and rotunda that really help to set this unique building apart from the surrounding area.
Bullock State History New Zealand – Perhaps one of the hidden treasures of Austin TX is the Texas State History Museum. Be sure to set aside a day or perhaps even more to visit this building. It’s a great place to go with the children but there are also plenty of things for the adults to see as well. Many exhibits are found throughout the museum, as well as an IMAX theater. It’s a great way to learn a little bit more about Austin and Texas in general.
Zilker Park – Located in South Austin, this 350 acre park is one that is certainly well worth visiting. It has a lot to offer to those who visit as well, and it is possible to bring the entire family, even the dogs. Some of the options that are available for enjoying the day at this park include kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding. Of course, you can also just spend the day enjoying the sunshine with your family. Be sure to look online at some of the events that take place throughout the year.
Blanton Museum Of Art – This art museum, which is located at the University of Texas, is one of the largest art museums found within any university in the United States. It covers almost 190,000 square feet and you will find a wide variety of exhibits, some permanent and others temporary. Since being founded in 1963, it has been visited by hundreds of thousands of individuals. Be sure to look at some of the temporary exhibitions online to see what is available before you arrive.
Austin Zoo – If you love animals (and who doesn’t love animals), you will appreciate the Austin zoo. It is an animal sanctuary and rescue zoo that is located in the Austin area. You will find over 300 different animals in 100 species inside of the zoo. It’s a great place to spend the day with the family.
Lake Austin – If you want to get out and enjoy the day in the area of Austin, TX, then this reservoir is a great place to do so. It was formerly named Lake McDonnell and it is located on the Colorado River. You will find plenty of water sports and other options available.
