They say that everything is bigger in Texas and when visiting Austin it’s easy to see why. The locals have a welcoming attitude that is as big as the great outdoors that Texas is famed for and the steaks are everything that is always promised about Texas cuisine. But there a little more to Austin than outsize portions of welcome and great food.
Some thing are a little smaller – and that includes the small town attitudes of the locals towards tourists. This is a big city with a small town welcoming feel. A visitor wouldn’t be surprised visiting the same store on two separate days to encounter a clerk who would remember their name.
The charm of Austin extends way beyond that all important welcoming feel. This is a place where the visitor can let their hair down, enjoy some great cultural experiences, immerse themselves in history and get a fantastic cosmopolitan meal – all on the same day.

If that doesn’t get you onto the dance floor or singing along nothing will.
food, glorious food. Austin is home to some of the best restaurants in the United States, but you don’t have to bust the bank balance to enjoy fabulous culinary experiences. Even a humble food truck in Austin can provide a gustatory experience that can be compared to the best available anywhere in the world.

Serving food which are a reinvention of Mexican classics this restaurant has quickly become an Austin favorite. Try the migas or chicken milanesa tacos.
Want to enjoy an American classic? Head to Pool Burger in West Austin. Classic Burgers and great tikki inspired cocktails make this one of the best places in Austin to hand and chill. Doesn’t hurt that the food is exceptional as well.
It would be a mistake not to mention a giant steak when talking about Texas. Austin has its share of steakhouses that offer enormous slabs of prime beef. Try out Trio at the Four Seasons. Great Yelp reviews and the wonderful, shareable 36 ozs Porterhouse. This may be suitable for sharing with four – but the quality of this cut is simply exceptional. If you think that it requires an intro the King Crab Claws are great and fresh oysters set the mood.
Austin also does not lack for cultural experiences or for activities that draw in nature lovers. Museums are abundant – but to experience something truly unique visit Austin in August. This is when 1.5 million Mexican free tailed bats who make their home under Congress Ave Bridge set out at sunset to feast on the insects what scientists say is 30,000 pounds of insects a night.
Austin has something for everyone. If you want to experience the true heart and soul of the state then visit its capital city and get under the skin of what makes Texas one of the most exciting places in the U.S. to visit.
