Learn How To Protect Your Garage From Unwanted Critters. Keep Your Valuable Belongings Safe With These Simple Tips And Tricks

Are unwanted guests making themselves at home in your garage? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! In this article, we’ll show you how to keep critters out of your garage and reclaim your space.

No one wants to share their belongings with furry intruders or deal with the mess they leave behind. That’s why it’s important to take proactive measures to prevent them from entering in the first place.

Here are some steps you can take to keep critters out of your garage:

  1. Seal all entry points: Inspect your garage for any gaps or holes where critters can enter. Use caulk or weatherstripping to seal these openings.

  2. Remove attractants: Critters are often drawn to food or nesting materials. Keep your garage clean and free of any food sources. Store pet food in airtight containers and dispose of garbage regularly. Also, avoid storing items like cardboard boxes or old newspapers that can serve as nesting material.

  3. Install motion-activated lights: Critters are less likely to enter a well-lit area. Install motion-activated lights around the perimeter of your garage to deter them.

  4. Use pest repellents: Consider using natural pest repellents like peppermint oil, mothballs, or ammonia-soaked rags. Place these repellents near entry points or areas where critters are likely to enter.

  5. Regularly clean and organize your garage: A cluttered and messy garage provides hiding spots for critters. Regularly clean and organize your garage to eliminate potential hiding spots.

By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to enjoy a critter-free garage where you can store your belongings safely and peacefully. So let’s get started on creating a space that belongs exclusively to you!

Key Takeaways

  • Sealing entry points: Inspect and seal any gaps or holes in the garage, windows, doors, walls, and foundation.
  • Removing attractants: Dispose of garbage properly, store pet food in sealed containers, and clean up spills or crumbs regularly.
  • Installing motion-activated lights: Add extra security and deter critters by illuminating the garage when movement is detected.
  • Using pest repellents: Utilize natural repellents such as peppermint oil and vinegar mixed with water to deter rodents, insects, ants, and spiders.

Seal All Entry Points

Let’s start by sealing all the entry points to your garage to make sure those pesky critters don’t stand a chance!

  • Weatherstripping installation is a great way to keep critters out.
  • Make sure to check all windows and doors for any gaps or cracks where critters could squeeze through.
  • Install weatherstripping along the edges of windows and doors to create a tight seal.
  • Additionally, consider using pest proofing techniques such as sealing cracks in the walls or foundation with caulk or expanding foam.
  • Don’t forget about vents or pipes that may also serve as potential entry points.

By taking these steps, you can greatly reduce the chances of critters finding their way into your garage.

Now let’s move on to removing attractants, which will further discourage critters from making themselves at home.

Remove Attractants

To prevent unwanted visitors from entering, you should remove all food sources and seal any potential entry points. Here are three important steps to remove attractants from your garage:

  1. Proper waste disposal: Dispose of garbage and food waste in sealed containers. Regularly clean the area around your garbage cans to prevent odors that may attract critters.

  2. Secure pet food storage: Store pet food in airtight containers to eliminate enticing smells for critters. Avoid leaving pet bowls with leftover food in the garage overnight.

  3. Clean up spills and crumbs: Wipe down surfaces regularly and sweep up any spills or crumbs that may have accumulated in the garage.

By following these steps, you can significantly reduce the chances of critters being attracted to your garage.

Once you have removed all attractants, it’s time to further enhance security by installing motion-activated lights in your garage space.

Install Motion-Activated Lights

Installing motion-activated lights in your garage adds an extra layer of security. These lights illuminate the space whenever movement is detected, helping to deter critters from entering. They also provide you with a well-lit area when you enter or exit your garage at night. Motion-activated lights are easy to install and can be found at most hardware stores.

Consider installing security cameras to further enhance the safety of your garage. These cameras can help you monitor any suspicious activity and provide evidence if needed.

Another option to keep critters away from your garage is using ultrasonic devices. These devices emit high-frequency sounds that are unpleasant for critters but inaudible to humans. This can effectively keep pests away without causing harm.

By incorporating these measures, you create a secure environment for both yourself and your belongings.

To continue keeping critters out of your garage, let’s explore the next step: use pest repellents.

Use Pest Repellents

One effective way to ward off unwanted guests in your garage is by using pest repellents. These repellents act like a force field, keeping intruders at bay.

There are natural alternatives available that you can try before resorting to calling a professional exterminator. For example, peppermint oil is known to repel rodents and insects due to its strong scent. Simply soak cotton balls in the oil and place them strategically around your garage.

Another option is using vinegar mixed with water as a spray. This mixture can deter ants and spiders. Simply spray it in areas where these pests are commonly found.

Remember to regularly clean and organize the garage as well. Clutter can attract critters seeking shelter. By implementing these simple methods, you can create an environment that discourages pests from making themselves at home in your garage.

Regularly Clean and Organize the Garage

Regularly cleaning and organizing the garage is crucial in creating an inhospitable environment for unwanted pests.

Start by decluttering the space and removing any items that are no longer needed. Store belongings in sealed containers to eliminate potential hiding spots for pests.

Sweep and mop regularly to remove debris and food particles that may attract critters. Inspect the garage for cracks or gaps in the walls, windows, and doors, and seal them with caulk or weatherstripping.

Install a door sweep to prevent pests from sneaking under the door. Consider using pest-proofing techniques such as installing screens on windows, using natural repellents like peppermint oil or vinegar, or setting up traps strategically around the garage.

By following these simple steps, you can create a clean and organized garage that is less attractive to critters seeking shelter or food.

Conclusion

To keep critters out of your garage, you need to take action.

Start by sealing all entry points and removing any attractants that might entice them inside.

Installing motion-activated lights will deter critters from entering, while using pest repellents can provide an added layer of protection.

Don’t forget to regularly clean and organize your garage to minimize hiding spots for unwanted guests.

By following these practical tips, you can create a critter-free space in no time.

On Oct. 31 my electric gate stopped working and I called Alpha Gate and Door and talked to Lisa. She was great and based on my symptoms said she thought it was the battery and she would send Kealan out the next day. He came and replaced the battery with a 12 v 55ah battery. I asked him to rehang my reflector light on my neighbors new fence so the motion sensor would work. It had worked fine prior to that being taken down. He did that and it worked for a minute and then stopped. He rewired it and it worked once and he left. The next day I noticed the sensor was not working but I didn’t really care because my dog is too small to trigger it. I was charged $448 -$169 for the service call, $249 for the battery and $30 to rewire the sensor. I work exclusively from home as an attorney and never even use the gate during the week. A few weeks later the gate stopped operation completely and I called on Dec. 6. Lisa said she would send Kealan out. He called me and I said the gate would not open at all, the sensor was not working and the sensor was making a nonstop buzzing noise. He arrived fairly late in the day and I saw him pull into my driveway but he did not come to my door and went straight to the gate. I immediately went out there and I saw when he opened the cover that the battery charger lights were not on. He was in a very bad mood and starting ripping the battery out and said I needed a new battery. I said I guess it was because the battery charger wasn’t plugged in. I was not mad about it because that can happen to anyone. He got really mad at that point, I guess because I knew what had happened. He demanded to know whether I had unplugged it, grabbed a huge battery that would not even fit in my unit, then declared the charger had “allegedly” not been plugged in. As he was trying to force the battery in and was slamming everything around, I asked him if he had a smaller battery. He said no, it was whomever installed my gate opener’s fault because the antenna was on the left and they were usually on the right. He continued to try to force it but could not get the cover on. So he gave up and said he would come back Monday with a smaller battery. I assumed the sensor was not working because the battery had died. I heard nothing from anyone the following Monday and had had it so I called Lisa and yelled and told her the way Kealan had behaved and when was the battery actually going to be installed. She said she would talk to Kealan and I said do you have anybody else who is not a jackass who could come instead. She said she would investigate and call me back. She never called me back and apparently the next day around lunch Kealan snuck onto my property, did not tell me he was there, and put in another battery and texted me the gate was now working. I went outside to try it and the remote was not working at all. I have programmed remotes many times (I have done a lot of products liability work and handled cases with complex machinery failures and deposed a lot of engineers so I am not unfamiliar with this type of equipment) and checked it and the receiver was getting the signal from the transmitter but the control board was not opening the gate.So I called Lisa, explained he had come but not told me he was there, and that the remote was not opening the gate. I also apologized for yelling at her the day before because it was not her fault. She said she would tell him. After that call I remembered there is a reset button on the Patriot control board so I went out and pushed it and that caused the remote to work so I called Lisa and said it was working. The new battery is smaller than the one he had originally put in and retails for about $95. The motion sensor still does not work, I have done jumping jacks in front of of it to know avail. I am not bothering to call again about that because Kealan would probably get really mad again. He does NOT like his competence put into question. You decide if $249 is a fair markup on a $95 battery.

I highly recommend Alpha Gate & Door Company! The entire process was incredibly quick and professional! I spoke with Lisa (she’s amazing and extremely knowledgeable) on Tuesday and she came out Wednesday with a recommendation to replace the gate opener that was faulty and couldn’t handle the weight of my gate. I received the reasonable quote the same day and their technician, Keelan, was at my house on Friday of the SAME WEEK to install. Keelan was just as courteous and professional as Lisa and did an amazing job! The install was perfect and pristine! I’ve tried working with other companies and honestly they are hands down the best! If there were 10 stars available, I would give them 10!Thank you Alpha team!
